Saint Patrick was a born into Roman Britain, and at the age of 16 was captured from his home in Wales and taken to Ireland as a slave. He lived for 6 years as a herdsman but eventually escaped on a ship back to his family. He later became a Bishop and returned to Ireland. It is believed, but not known for certain, that he lived in the second half of the 5th Century, and died on 17th March, which is now known as St Patrick's Day.
