Wimbledon Championships

Held at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in Wimbledon in London, in July, the Wimbledon Championships - which are often referred to just as "Wimbledon" - are one of 4 major annual tennis competitions which are together known as the Grand Slam. The others are the Australian Open in January, the French Open in May / June and the US Open in August / September.

Wimbledon is the only Grand Slam competition still held on grass, and not all great tennis players are great grass court players. That means that we sometimes have exciting upsets in the tennis rankings over the course of the competition.

2019 will be the 133rd year of the Wimbledon Championships!

Wimbledon is also associated with strawberries and cream, long queues of fans sleeping overnight on the pavements outside the club hoping to get tickets, the English summer - and rain!

2019's Wimbledon Championship will run from 1st to 14th July.
