It's not hard to guess that the warthog is a member of the pig family! But this animal is only found in Africa, and it is a lot stranger looking than a pig, and is not a very pretty animal! In fact, it is called a warthog because of the warty lumps and bumps on its face!
Warthogs can reach up to 5 feet in length. Their skin is covered in bristles and they have a mane and two pairs of tusks which give them some protection against their predators - mainly lions and leopards. Warthogs are usually peaceful and they can run surprising fast, at up to 30 mph.
The warthog has a very long, elongated snout, designed for rooting around in the ground for roots and bulbs. Their excellent sense of smell helps them find food.
Have you come across Pumbaa, Timon's friend in The Lion King? He is probably the most famous (cartoon) warthog in the world!
