Spiders
Spiders have eight legs, live in every part of the world apart from Antarctica, and come in nearly 44,000 different species! They come in all shapes an sizes from very tiny to very large - the largest being certain types of tarantula which have leg spans of nearly 10 inches.
Spiders are not insects. They are arachnids - a type of animal which has two body segments, eight legs, no wings and no antennae. Spiders are very ancient and have been found to have existed as far back as 2 million years ago!
Most spiders are harmless to humans, although a few will bite and inject venom.
