Rainbows
Rainbows are one of nature's wonders - something magical to enjoy with the children and celebrate. We've got a really lovely collection of rainbow crafts at Activity Village, as well as rainbow colouring pages and printables. There is plenty here to explore.
"Somewhere over the rainbow
Skies are blue,
And the dreams that you dare to dream
Really do come true."
(From the Wizard of Oz)
What Are Rainbows?
Rainbows are colourful arcs of light that appear in the sky after it rains. They are created by the reflection, refraction and dispersion of the sun's rays through water droplets in the atmosphere. Rainbows have seven colours in the order of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet.
Rainbow colours are made brighter and appear more intense when there is lots of moisture in the air and the sun is at a low angle.
Rainbows can also be seen around waterfalls where a large amount of spray is thrown into the air.
Some people believe that rainbows bring good luck and symbolise hope and peace.
Remembering the Colours of a Rainbow
