Lyndon B. Johnson (1908-1973) was the 36th President of the United States, serving from 1963 to 1969. He was Vice-President to Kennedy and became President when Kennedy was assassinated.
Johnson was a Democrat. He is best remembered for the Great Society program - designed to improve education and medical care and protect the poor and minorities - and for America's involvement in the controversial war in Vietnam.
