Herbert Hoover
Herbert Hoover (1874-1964) was the 31st President of the United States, serving from 1929 to 1933.
Hoover was a Republican. He had been an engineer who had organised humanitarian relief in Europe after the First World War. He though business and government could be improved by getting rid of inefficiency and waste. Eight months after he took office, however, the Wall Street Crash led to the Great Depression and Hoover was unable to help the economy recover before losing the election in 1932.
