Safety Hat
Perfect for a construction worker's costume at Halloween, a craft to accompany a safety unit, or just a good excuse to do some papier mache and painting, this safety hat is convincing and fun to wear. You will need a bit of patience and plenty of drying time!
You will need: Balloon Blow the balloon up until it is about the size of your head. Rip the newspaper into small pieces, dip them into the glue and stick to the balloon. When the balloon is completely covered, leave to dry. Add another layer of paper and glue. When the second coat of paper is dry, burst the balloon and throw it away. Trim the edges so you are left with a round bowl shape. From the scrap card cut a brim for the hat and tape this to the papier mache hat shape.
Tape the box to the hat so it sits next to the bowl and in the middle of the brim. Cover everything with a third layer of paper and glue and once again leave to dry. Paint with yellow paint. Back to Costumes for Kids |
