Parent And Baby Cinema

If you missed the latest blockbusters this summer because you were glued to
your new baby’s side, look no further than the newest craze – Parent and Baby
Cinema Screenings.
Showing at cinemas across the country; all the top box office hits with a twist
– the twist being you can take your baby with you! Going to see movie is rated
as one of the things parents miss the most once they have a baby in tow. They
can still visit restaurants, go for long walks, pop into galleries and museums,
but cinemas are no-go areas for screaming babies – for obvious reasons.
More and more cinemas, however, are wising up to the fact that parents of very
young children still want to see all the latest releases on the big screen, and
many are now offering special screenings of A-list films for parents and babies
alone.
Can I take my baby to see a 15 rated film?
Most cinemas have an age limit on the babies they will allow in of 12 to 18
months, so you wouldn’t be able to take your impressionable toddler with you,
no. But babies are fine! Some authorities set their limit at the 12A
certificate, others are more lenient and allow 15 certificate films for parents
and babies. As these screenings are for the parents, it is unlikely the baby
will remember anything about the film! They will probably sleep through the
whole thing anyway…
Does it matter if my baby screams throughout the film?
Not a bit! This is the one place where you don’t have to worry at all. Every
person in that cinema will be aware of the fact that it is a baby-friendly
screening – and if they went in by mistake they will probably leave in a hurry!
Parent and baby cinema screenings are also changing-friendly, breast and bottle
feeding friendly, and anything else your baby might throw at you friendly.
Do all cinemas have Parent and Baby screenings?
Unfortunately no. The trend is catching on, though, and more are starting up
every week. Cinemas are recognizing that specialist screenings such as these are
a great way of filling seats on an otherwise quiet weekday afternoon. If your
local cinema isn’t offering a baby-friendly screening, why not contact them and
ask them to consider it?
What will I do with my pram?
Most of the big cinemas who run these screenings with great success have all
your needs completely catered for. Valet parking for prams (honestly!), bottle
warming facilities, changing tables and mats – you name it, they’ve thought of
it.
Will I actually get to see the film?
Parents who have tried the screenings report that the atmosphere in the
cinemas is relaxed, the lights dimmed as usual, and the volume only slightly
lower. Most of the babies end up falling asleep anyway, and the acoustics in the
auditorium are such that any noisy babies just blend into the background!
Lots of new parents have found Parent and Baby screenings a complete lifesaver,
allowing them back into a world they thought was lost to them forever. So, get
your popcorn and your nappies and head off to your local multiplex right now.
