Painting Projects

Children of all ages love to paint, and should be given lots of opportunities to do so, even though it sometimes seems a lot of effort (especially the clearing up). We have many painting projects and ideas here for inspiration, many of which can be done outside in the garden to minimize mess!

Mirror Image Painting

Paint your design on to one half of the paper. Fold the paper in half and press down. Open out the picture and leave to dry.

Splatter Painting

Water your paint down a little to make it runny. Dip a brush in, then hold it above the paper and tap so the paint splatters over the paper. Keep adding more colors until you are happy with your picture.

Blow Painting

Water your paint down a little to make it runny. Pour a couple of drops of paint on to your paper, then use a drinking straw to blow the paint in all directions.
Keep adding more paint and blowing until you are happy with your picture.

Bubble painting
This is a great favorite with kids, and produces different (and fascinating) effects every time. A good outdoor painting project.

Marble effect painting
Here is a quick way of producing a marble effect painting which is very suitable for younger children, and effective too.

Squeezy bottle painting
This is definitely an outdoor painting project, and one that the kids will love!

Tennis ball painting
Another outdoor project, children will be able to create some exciting results with this "technique"!
