Activity Village News 12th June 2009

A Message From Lindsay

I love choosing the photos for the newsletter but I have to say that the one above is my all-time favourite! It just puts a smile on my face every time I see it :)

I'd like to say a HUGE thank you to everybody who applied to the draw for testers for our new Vocabulary Busters courses - we had a really wonderful response! Unfortunately that meant that we had a rather large "hat" to pull names out of, so my apologies to those of you that didn't win the free course. We have three winners - Sarah in the UK, Tanya in Australia and Jennifer in the US. I am hugely excited about the courses and hope to be launching the first in the next couple of weeks.

One thing that has come out of the emails I have received over the last week is that we need to bring forward our plans for an "English As A Foreign Language" course, too - so stay tuned!

We've got two very good new articles this week - the top two under the "Latest Articles" heading in the column on the right. If you have a moment, take a look. The first was features on Activity Village in its very early days nearly 9 years ago, and is still as inspiring as it was then - I was very pleased when I came across it in an old file on my computer this week! Colleen brings together some classic creative play ideas which are well worth printing out or jotting down in a notebook to jog your memory when all else fails!

Finally, for UK viewers I am thrilled to tell you that we have a fabulous prize up for grabs for fans of Ice Age - Father's Day tickets to the London premiere of Ice Age 3 - Dawn of the Dinosaurs! Details of how to enter here. Ice Age 3 poster

Easter chick handprints by Julia
Jenny sent in this super photo of an Easter work of art, done by her daughter Julia just before she turned 3. I think they've turned out beautifully! You don't have to wait for next Easter to try some handprint painting - we have lots of ideas here:

I also came across a very nice Father's Day version of our origami tie here - and you've still got time to fold your own!
